Prof. Bazuaye Nosakhare, M.B;B.S. FMC HSCT

Consultant Haematologist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital; and Professor at the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria

Professor Bazuaye Godwin Nosakhare is a Haematologist and stem cell transplantologist with over 23 years’ experience in teaching, research and administration in the University and teaching Hospital. He is a graduate of the University of Benin. (M.B.B.S (1993), and a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria FMC (Path)(2003). Certified stem cell transplantologist (Cert. HSCT) and Clinical Apheresis expert from Basel Teaching Hospital Switzerland (2010). He has a good knowledge of ICT and Data processing. He was born in 1967 in Benin City, married with Children, a Christian, and a Nigerian.

He is a Consultant Haematologist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Nigeria (2005 till date) and Professor at the University of Benin Edo State Nigeria with sub-specialty in Haemato-oncology and stem cell transplantation (2015 till date). He Represented UNIBEN in Voyage of Scientific discovery organized by National University Commission (NUC) of Nigeria and presented the successful pioneering work in stem cell transplantation research in the entire sub- Sahara black Africa with a 100% overall survival for the cure of Sickle cell disease.

He pioneered the first successful stem cell transplant for the cure of Sickle cell disease (2011) and also pioneered the first automated red cell exchange in Nigeria for sickle cell disease (2014) in the entire black sub-Sahara Africa. He has taught several medical personnel in the country the act of Apheresis leading to the establishment of several functional centers across the country.

Attracted several projects to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital amongst which is the collaboration between the Switzerland Government (Basel University Hospital) and Nigeria (University of Benin Teaching Hospital Edo State) in Stem cell transplantation. This was instrumental for the first successful transplant with donation of equipment and training of several medical personnel from UBTH in the field of stem cell transplantation. Also he attracted the donation of 10 Apheresis Machine from the Terumo BCT Company in Europe to several hospitals in Nigeria including UBTH. His exploit in stem cell transplantation has made Nigeria to be recognized by the WHO in 2012 and the country was added to the map of countries in the world that can perform stem cell transplantation a high technology Medicine that could only be performed in developed countries.

He has published over 40 scientific research articles in peer reviewed local, National and International journals. Also he has presented over 30 papers in local, National and International conferences including guest speaker at the LUTH 50years scientific conference.
